Joseph O’Brien Jr., MD, is a pediatric anesthesiologist with an interest in medical acupuncture. He spent 34 years in the Navy as a helicopter pilot and physician before retiring in 2018.
Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, O’Brien received his undergraduate degree from Boston College. He graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School before pursuing a pediatric internship and anesthesiology residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth. O’Brien then went on to complete a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital.
In addition to his clinical work, O’Brien has an interest in developing anesthesia training programs in challenging environments. He has traveled to Guyana in South America to provide this training.
