Kelly O’Connell, BSN, MSN, PNP, is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner who cares for children with neurological disorders, acquired brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors and more. She is an active member of the neuro-neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) team, Child Abuse Recognition and Education (CARE) Committee and the Performance Improvement Program. O’Connell enjoys teaching and gives educational talks throughout UVA Children’s. She is also a guest lecturer at the UVA School of Nursing and a preceptor for nurse practitioner students.
O’Connell was born and raised in Bronxville, New York. After completing her nursing degree at UVA, she worked as a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. O’Connell returned to Charlottesville to complete her Master of Science in Nursing. During graduate school, she worked as a community health nurse with Child Health Partnership (formerly Jefferson Area CHiP) and as a clinical instructor in nursing.
O’Connell is still an avid supporter of Child Health Partnership and serves on the Personnel Committee.
