Patrick Ahern, CPNP-AC/PC, is a pediatric nurse practitioner on the pediatric palliative care team at UVA Children's. He coordinates the care of children with life-threatening/limiting illnesses, educating and assisting patients, families, and caregivers in making complex medical decisions and collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to support these medically fragile pediatric patients and their families.
Patrick was born and raised in Roanoke, VA, and received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Virginia School of Nursing in 2011. While working as a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit, he received his master of science in nursing/pediatric nurse practitioner degree in 2015. He practiced pediatric primary care until joining the pediatric palliative care team in July 2019. Patrick received an acute care pediatric nurse practitioner post-master's certificate from the UVA School of Nursing in 2021 and is currently enrolled in the Johns Hopkins University doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) executive/MBA dual-degree program. In addition to his clinical role, he serves as the chair for UVA Health's Advanced Practice Provider Council Taskforce on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Patrick lives in Charlottesville with his husband and dogs. He enjoys traveling, exercising, music, skiing, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
