Biography

Reza J. Daugherty, MD, FAAP, is a pediatric radiologist and chief of pediatric medical imaging at UVA. He cares for young patients with a variety of health conditions, from abdominal to neurological problems, ensuring an accurate diagnosis through the use of imaging technology, including advanced techniques such as MRI and contrast ultrasound.

Daugherty is board-certified in general pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine as well as diagnostic radiology and pediatric radiology. After receiving his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College, he completed pediatric residency training at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Daugherty pursued additional residency training in diagnostic radiology at Christiana Hospital, and completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Daugherty has a special interest in process improvement and has a yellow belt in Lean Six-Sigma, a project management methodology aimed at improving performance while decreasing inefficiency and waste. In his leadership role at UVA, he has helped standardize imaging protocols and develop new programs. Most recently this includes developing the contrast enhanced voiding urosonography program, one of only a small group of pediatric imaging facilities to offer this novel technique.

A highly engaged mentor and instructor, Daugherty regularly presents at local, regional and national conferences on a variety of topics related to pediatric imaging, and he has written multiple peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters.

When not working to advance the care of children at UVA, Daugherty spends his free time with his wife, five-year-old twins and three rescue dogs. He and his family are active in volunteering and advocating for animal rescue and their humane treatment.
