Bio & Overview
Michael Kaplan, MD, is an interventional radiologist, who performs catheter-based procedures to diagnose and treat uterine bleeding, vascular and vein diseases, cancer, and other conditions.
When caring for patients, he says, “I relate my own experiences as a patient. I imagine how I would feel and how I would want to be spoken to.”
Dr. Kaplan grew up in northern New Jersey, where he played baseball, tennis, and racquetball as a child. He studied biology at George Washington University in Washington, DC, and attended medical school at New York University.
He completed his surgery residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital and his radiology residency and vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
He was the cofounder and director of the St. Barnabas Medical Center venous disorders program in Livingston, New Jersey. He was also the director of the noninvasive vascular lab at Inova Alexandria and Sentara Northern Virginia hospitals.
In his spare time, Dr. Kaplan enjoys music, yoga, meditation, and hiking.
