Screening Protocol of Asthmatic, Allergic Rhinitic, or Control Participants for Experimental Rhinovirus Challenges

The Division of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology is seeking adults aged 18 to 65 with mild allergic asthma and/or environmental allergies for Asthma Studies. The purpose of this study is to identify adults with asthma who may qualify for our future research. The study involves up to 3 visits and includes allergy tests, breathing tests, and blood samples. The first screening involves learning about the study, signing a consent form, completing a questionnaire, and giving a blood sample. A second visit will be scheduled after Visit 1 for those who qualify. This visit will include allergy skin testing, 2-3 lung function (breathing) tests, a blood draw, and urine pregnancy test (if you are a female who can get pregnant). Results from the allergy testing and breathing tests will be shared with you. If the first two visits show that you can join a future study, and more than 6 months have passed since your second visit, you may be asked to come in for a third visit. This visit may include another blood draw and more breathing tests. If you qualify, you may be invited to join a future study about asthma or allergies.
