Clinical Trials | Research Study for Blast-exposed Operational Personnel (Active Duty and Veterans)
Exploring the Neurovascular Response and the role of Glymphatic Flow in Blast-exposed Operational Personnel
The Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging seeks active-duty service members and veterans aged 18-65 with a history of blast exposure for a 2-day research study. The purpose of the study is to better understand how certain systems in the brain are affected by multiple exposures to blasts. You may be eligible for this study if: you are an active-duty service member or veteran, have a history of blast exposure and are willing to travel to Charlottesville, VA. The study involves completing assessments and questionnaires, providing a blood sample, and undergoing 2 different MRI scans. During one MRI you will be asked to breathe in a mix of medical air and carbon dioxide while the machine takes pictures of your brain. Study procedures will be completed over 2 days and will take approximately 8-10 hours total. Participants will be reimbursed for travel-related expenses and the study will arrange for hotel accommodations. Study-related procedures are provided at no cost.
