Bio & Overview
Mark DeBoer, MD, is a pediatric endocrinologist and professor of pediatrics. He divides his time between clinical practice, medical research, and teaching medical students and pediatric residents. His research interests include 1) testing new technologies to help improve the care of children and adults with Type 1 diabetes, 2) assessing long-term risks related to the metabolic syndrome in adolescents and adults, and 3) studying barriers to normal growth and development among children in resource-poor areas around the world.
Dr. DeBoer grew up in Tucson, Arizona. He went to Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, attended the University of Arizona for medical school, performed his pediatric residency at UVA, and completed his pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. He joined the UVA faculty in 2007.
Dr. DeBoer’s wife, Jorie, is a reading teacher. In his free time, he enjoys running with their three children.
