Alana Harrison, PNP, is a nurse practitioner with a particular interest in pediatric headache management. She has a certificate of added qualification in headache medicine from the National Headache Foundation.
She performs interventional procedures for headaches, such as nerve blocks. She also cares for patients with concussions, epilepsy, syncope, and other neurological concerns.
She is very interested in facilitating the transition from pediatric to adult neurology for epilepsy patients in order to support their autonomy and health maintenance.
Ms. Harrison was born and raised in central Massachusetts. She attended Tufts University for her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Child Development and Spanish. She then attended the University of California San Francisco for her registered nursing degree and the Medical University of South Carolina for her master’s degree in nursing, awarded in 2010.
Prior to joining UVA Health, she worked for several years in pediatric neurology in Miami, Florida, both at a major teaching hospital and in private practice. She has also worked in pediatric primary care.
She was thrilled to relocate to Charlottesville, as most of her family is here, and she has always considered this area “home.”
Ms. Harrison lives in Charlottesville with her husband and two young sons. She enjoys reading, running, meditation, and Buddhist studies.
