Highlights
Meet Emergency Medicine Physician Karla Lacayo, MD
I'm Dr. Karla Lacayo. I am an emergency medicine physician practicing at UVA Health. I see patients of all age groups from birth until they're very elderly. We see patients with all different conditions in the emergency department from anything that might be medical or a surgical complaint, gynecologic or obstetric patients. We really see it all. I chose my specialty because it has given me the opportunity to really see all different conditions and to form connections with patients in a short period of time when they're most vulnerable and in a time where they didn't expect to have something happen to them, you make a real impact in their lives. When a new patient comes to see me, they can expect that I'm going to be entering the room with a smile, hear why they are there, what their concerns are and take care of them and then explain in detail their results and their follow-up plan. A patient should come to UVA Health for their care because they're going to get top-notch service and they're going to get that in an environment where people are happy to be there. People are passionate about taking care of patients and we all work together as a team to ensure they get the right care and that their experience is top-notch.
