For kids who depend on respiratory technology, it can feel challenging to line up their medical care. You want specialists who understand your child’s complex respiratory needs, but who can also address your child’s other needs.

Regardless of their condition, if your child needs respiratory technology, like a ventilator or oxygen, the complex care clinic at UVA Health Children’s can help.

Getting Complex Care at UVA Health Children’s

At UVA Health Children’s, our complex care clinic works to coordinate your child’s services. We’ll assess your child, line up visits with specialists, and try to create an all-in-one visit. By working together, as a team, we can provide care that takes all your child’s needs into account.

Not only is this easier for you, but it also helps us craft a complete care plan.

At UVA Health Children’s Complex Care Clinic, we help children with respiratory support needs. This could include:

  • Nasal cannula
  • CPAP
  • BiPAP
  • Tracheostomy
  • Ventilator

While we'll talk about your child's breathing support, we'll also address their other medical needs. This approach, coordinated care, allows for fewer trips to the hospital, and more collaboration between specialists.

We can’t always line up all your child’s appointments to happen on 1 day. But we’ll try to limit your trips to the hospital by:

  • Working with your local pediatrician
  • Using Telehealth and MyChart options, when possible
  • Scheduling multiple specialists to see your child on the same day when we can
