Karin W. Skeen, MSN, RN, NEA-BC
In 2013, after serving for two years as inpatient director for UVA Children’s and women’s services, Skeen took on the role of associate chief of women’s and children’s services at UVA Children’s. Her passion for family-centered care is coupled with her purpose of creating a safe environment for patients and staff.
When asked what she loves most about her job, Skeen says, “I was born a nurse. I really can’t remember a time when I ever wanted to be anything else. When I was little I didn’t play house; I played pediatric ward. All of my dolls were bandaged or critically ill. I love my job because I have the opportunity to support an amazing team and provide excellent care for our patients and families.”
Skeen has more than 25 years of healthcare experience, taking on a variety of clinical roles. She has always worked in women’s and children’s areas as a staff nurse, charge nurse, unit manager or director.
