In-Hospital Support for Families

We’re glad you’re with us at our children’s hospital. But we understand that you may be feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or nervous for your child.

While your child is here with us, we have support for them, you, and your family.

Chaplaincy

Our chaplains offer spiritual support and guidance for people of all faiths.

Find out more information about our chaplaincy services.

Child Life

Child Life specialists help make our hospital a great place for kids. They also help kids understand the hospital.

From explaining complex medical procedures in child-friendly language to helping siblings process what’s happening to their loved one, Child Life supports each individual family based on your needs.

Family Stress Clinic

Having a child in the hospital is hard for the entire family. The UVA Family Stress Clinic provides counseling services for individuals, couples, or families.

They can help navigate many of the emotions and problems that can arise while your child needs medical care. This includes:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Job-related stress
  • Family conflict
  • Child development or behavioral problems

Social Work

The social work team can help you with resources for navigating the emotional, social, and practical concerns. Not only do social workers support our in-hospital patients, but they also can help ease your family into life at home.

Educational Help

In addition to our in-hospital education program, we also have an education coordinator. They help our patients with a variety of educational needs, including returning to school, getting resources for homebound instruction, or helping design educational accommodations with your child’s school.
