Emily R Trauernicht, MD
Pediatric Hospital Medicine
Bio & Overview
Emily Trauernicht, MD, is a pediatrician offering primary care. During her residency training at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Dr. Trauernicht discovered her passion for providing primary care. “There’s an immense joy that can be found in developing long-term relationships with children and their families,” she says. As a primary care provider, she believes her role requires that she listen, learn, partner, and educate.
Growing up, Dr. Trauernicht’s mom worked as a nurse practicing pediatric hospital medicine. Hearing her stories and seeing the impact on patient’s lives was a big influence. From these experiences, she learned what it means to serve and give back.
Dr. Trauernicht was born in Germany, while her family was stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base. For years, her family moved frequently and were stationed both overseas and in the states. But while she was still in elementary school, they settled in Virginia. Though she left briefly for her residency, she returned to be close to family and be a part of the Charlottesville community.
