Janet L Breslin, FNP-BC
Family Medicine
Bio & Overview
Janet Breslin, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who specializes in women's health, adolescent health, and the management of chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes.
She describes her approach to patient care as honest, open-minded and comprehensive.
“I have always said, ‘Anyone can take care of hypertension or diabetes.’ What I do differently is establish a relationship with the patient. That is why I work in family practice."
Breslin was born at Walter Reed Army Hospital and remained in Fairfax County until she married and moved to Manassas. She obtained her nursing degree from Marymount College of Virginia in Arlington, where she graduated cum laude. She then obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education degree with a specialization in critical care from Marymount University.
She spent her early career working as an emergency room nurse. “After being a nurse and working in the ER for 15 years, I had the desire to be more independent and become a family nurse practitioner,” she says.
After achieving her FNP Post Master’s Certificate at Marymount, Breslin became the first family nurse practitioner on staff at what is now UVA Health Bull Run Family Medicine in Manassas. In this role, she helped train FNP students from multiple universities in addition to providing patient care. The year 2024 marks Breslin’s 46th year as a registered nurse and 29th year as a family nurse practitioner.
In her free time, Breslin enjoys baking, crafting, reading and spending time with her 7 grandkids, cheering them on in their extracurricular activities.
