Julia J Lovin, MD

Julie Lovin, MD, is a pediatric cardiologist with expertise in cardiac imaging, including transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, cross sectional imaging, and fetal cardiology.

Her research interests include congenital heart disease, fetal cardiology, aortopathy, and medical education.

Dr. Lovin grew up in a family of engineers and accountants in Atlanta and studied math at the University of Virginia. She attended medical school at Wake Forest University.

"I loved a chalk board and a mathematical proof. This led me to pursue problem solving in medicine," she says. "I think congenital heart disease encompasses the most fascinating anatomy and physiology of the body. I find great joy in discovery and problem solving with the complexity of the heart. It is an incredible privilege to serve children and their families. I listen and stand with families as we work together to evaluate and treat cardiac concerns and cardiac disease.”

Dr. Lovin completed her pediatrics residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, where she was pediatric chief resident and chief fellow.

Outside of work, she enjoys eating Bodo’s Bagels on the Lawn and exploring Charlottesville with her husband, who is also on the UVA Health faculty, and toddler.
