Masahiro “Mori” Morikawa, MD, MPH, is clinical director of UVA Family Medicine, providing care to both adults and children. In the medical field for more than 30 years, he is passionate about global health and trains primary care providers around the world, including Malawi, Tanzania, Thailand and China.
Morikawa was born and raised in Kobe, Japan. He graduated from Tokyo Medical University and completed a residency in traumatology and critical care at Nippon Medical School Hospital in Tokyo before moving to the U.S. He obtained a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and then finished his family medicine residency training at Case Western Reserve University, where he was a faculty member for 20 years.
In his free time, Morikawa enjoys gardening, strength training and traveling with his wife, Hikari.

Primary Care Physician Masahiro Morikawa, MD
My name is Masahiro Morikawa. I'm a clinical director at PCC Family Medicine at UVA Hospital. I do see all kinds of patients from babies to adults and geriatric populations. During medical school, I did quite a bit of soul searching. I ended up serving a refugee crisis in the 80's and 90's. I did quite a bit of international relief work, and through that experience, I realized that primary care or generalist medicine, is the most sensational and most useful in anywhere you go. My passion has been two things in the past 25 years as a professional. Number one, global medicine, the other one is bedside teaching. I love teach medicine for any providers. I don't separate out either a residence or any primary care providers in war zones. Medics, nurses, nurse assistant, whoever who provides care. People have to seek care at UVA because of a lineage of excellence. We have a long track record in history of excellent care and then I want you to consider family medicine as an entry point for that health care system. So, come to see us.
