The Children’s Fitness Clinic can help you and your child make healthy lifestyle changes in an encouraging environment. Partnering with a pediatric endocrinologist, a registered dietitian and nurse practitioner, together develop an individual treatment plan for you and your child.

This six-month program has realistic goals and dietary and lifestyle changes for children ages six to 21 years and who are at or above the 85th percentile in body mass index (BMI).

Ask your doctor for a referral to our clinic if:

  • Your child's BMI is at the 85th percentile or higher
  • Your family has a history of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or obesity

"Go Girls & Guys!" is a fun, dance-based exercise and support program for kids at risk for weight-related medical problems (those who have excess weight, polycystic ovary syndrome, insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes).

The goals of Go Girls & Guys! are to:

  • Introduce kids to exercise in a fun environment
  • Let kids meet other kids with similar health concerns

If kids discover and enjoy exercise, they may continue the good habit in the future!

About the Class

Participants may join at any time and come when they can.

Each session includes 45 minutes of dance exercise (initially Zumba) and 15-20 minutes of informal conversation about health-related topics.

We hope that parents, grandparents, siblings, or friends will join in the classes, too (with their doctor’s approval). It’s always more fun to move with friends and family!

All kids need a referral from their doctor so we know it's safe for you to exercise.

Permission Form

All participants, including family and friends, must read and sign the permission form (PDF).

If you're under 18, your parent or guardian must sign the form.
