Bio & Overview

Brian Belyea, MD, is a physician-scientist, who joined the UVA faculty in 2011. He specializes in caring for children with cancer, including leukemia and solid tumors, and various blood disorders.

In the laboratory, he conducts basic science research focused on understanding the origins of childhood leukemia.

Dr. Belyea was born and raised in Mt. Jackson, Virginia, in the heart of Shenandoah Valley. He studied chemistry as an undergraduate at James Madison University and then earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He stayed at UVA for his pediatrics residency training and a chief resident year. He then completed pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship training at Duke University.

Outside of work, Dr. Belyea enjoys spending time with his wife, Adrianne, and their twin sons, Charlie and Evan, and volunteering as a flag football, basketball, and baseball coach.
