Pediatric Urology

UVA's pediatric urology services are nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report. 

We give your child the benefit of an academic medical institution, where our doctors are committed to research and technology, including robotic surgery and laparoscopic surgery to care for your child's needs. We cover the entire field of pediatric urology, ranging from medical treatment of urinary tract infections to surgery for complex urologic abnormalities. 

We provide care not only at UVA but also travel to satellite clinics across the state of Virginia to ensure our patient receive excellent care. Additionally, we have multi-disciplinary programs for managing complex conditions.

Meet the Team

Our providers consist of two surgeons and two nurse practitioners. Both of our surgeons are board-certified urologists who are fellowship-trained in pediatric urology.  In addition, our team includes a care coordinator nurse, medical assistants and patient care technicians. We work closely with social workers, child psychologists, child life specialists, and translation services to get your child through each and every test and procedure comfortably. 

For surgical cases, our pediatric anesthesiologists provide excellent care. At UVA, our anesthesiologists are fellowship-trained in treating children.

Specialized Urological Treatment

Pediatric Robotics Program

Our pediatric robotics program offers the latest approach to minimally invasive surgery for both the kidney and the bladder. At UVA, we perform robotic surgery on children as young as 3 months of age, with the most common surgeries being:

  • Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction
  • Vesicoureteral reflux
  • Duplication anomalies

Multidisciplinary Clinics

We have several multidisciplinary clinics for providing comprehensive care for patients with complex medical conditions. A patient visiting these clinics may receive care from physicians in various specialties, nurse practitioners, psychologists and/or social workers.  Our multi-specialty programs include:

Satellite Clinics

For easier access to medical care, we provide multiple satellite clinics across the state of Virginia. Our physicians and nurse practitioners travel to these clinics monthly and see children of all ages with various conditions.
