Bio & Overview

Jessica Keim Malpass, PhD, RN, CPNP, FAAN, is a nurse scientist and pediatric hematology-oncology nurse practitioner. She uses methods involving decision analytics, data science, and health economics for family-centered care.

Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, National Science Foundation, and numerous philanthropic organizations, including the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the American Cancer Society. She has been recognized as a National Academy of Medicine Scholar in Diagnostic Excellence as well as a Betty Irene Moore Nurse Innovator Fellow.

As an undergraduate at Wake Forest University, Jessica majored in biology. She then continued her education at UVA, where she attained her nursing license, nursing science doctorate, and acute care pediatric nurse practitioner certification. She has since expanded her graduate education and training in regulatory sciences/biotechnology as well as health economics and pharmacoeconomics.

After acting as her late husband’s care partner through leukemia, she’s able to understand the impact of cancer on the entire family. She is very interested in working with families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer or a blood disorder as well as the intersection of pediatric oncology and critical care.

Thanks to her school-age son, Jessica is up to date on graphic novels, Lego sets, and other interests she can share with her patients. Jessica loves mentoring students and trainees in developing their own research interests.
