Developmental Disabilities & Delays In Kids

At UVA, our developmental pediatricians work with a multi-disciplinary team of physicians and healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat developmental problems in infants, children and teenagers. We work closely with the families of the children in order to educate parents about the community resources to help their children.

Developmental Disabilities & Delays In Kids

Parents naturally watch for any developmental disabilities and delays with their child soon after birth. If you suspect that your child's progress is behind that of other children his or her age, you may have questions like: "Why isn't my child crawling?", "Why isn't my child talking?" or "How can I help my child with learning problems in school?"

What Our Developmental Pediatricians Do

We work closely with a multi-disciplinary care team to diagnose and treat developmental problems in infants, children and teenagers. We educate parents about community resources, including school intervention programs and social services agencies.

See us for consultations to evaluate language, motor, cognitive, behavioral and social development. Registered dietitians can help assess your child's nutrition and diet needs.

Prenatal Consultations

Many developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome or spina bifida, may be detected before a child is born. Our doctors offer prenatal counseling to educate parents about the special needs of children with developmental disabilities.
